Project Description

Located in the south side of Bethlehem, Orasure Technologies’ Corporate Headquarters & Laboratories was the second building of the rapidly developing Orasure Technologies’ campus, located on an old Bethlehem Steel property. This new two-story, 55,000 SF building provides high-tech product development and manufacturing laboratories on the first floor and corporate executive offices and a conference center on the second floor. A portion of the first floor is also dedicated to client education and to warehousing and shipping products.

The Orasure Technologies campus was part of the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation property and of a technology park developed on the abandoned steel mill site, to revitalize South Bethlehem and to establish a technology corridor. The Orasure facility’s design features a unique architectural composition that incorporates both historical and contemporary features. The three-story open lobby, both in exterior and interior design, draws on the imagery of the historic Bethlehem Steel Mills, with details such as sloped metal roofing, exposed steel, historic red brick and limestone detailing and oversized red framed windows. The facility incorporates a modern look with its utilization of smooth metal panels, a low-e glass storefront, an open-office concept, floor to ceiling glass and high-tech lighting.

Boyle provided pre-construction services for the building design from conceptual through schematic and design development drawings. We developed multiple budgets, performed value engineering and facilitated the bidding process, subcontractor qualification and bid review. Construction services also included full-time site supervision, scheduling, submittal review and approvals, weekly progress meetings and review of monthly invoices, change orders, etc.
