The City of Allentown broke ground yesterday on the East Side Fire Station on Irving Street in Allentown.
After cost overruns last fall jeopardized the start of construction, the City asked for Boyle Construction’s assistance in managing the project so it will come in on budget at $1.8 million.
Boyle is providing construction management services for the 3-bay, 7,532 square-foot fire station. After a few months of working with designers and assisting with multiple budgets, new on-budget bids have been received, enabling construction to begin within a few weeks.
At the ground breaking ceremony, Mayor Ed Pawlowski stated, “Boyle Construction did a tremendous job in trimming the budget and getting us back on track with the right prices.” Sean Boyle thanked the Mayor and the City staff for “putting their confidence in Boyle by getting us involved. It is great to work with everyone on the team.”
The station is expected to be completed by January, 2014.
