What started off as an idea and a lunch conversation with Karen Duerholz and Sean Boyle has turned into an enjoyable and satisfying career for Tony Ganguzza at Boyle Construction. Tony is the Vice President of Preconstruction Services and oversees the Land Development for our private clients ensuring all Authorities Having Jurisdiction are covered for each project. Involving Tony early in the process with the design team helps tremendously with schedule outcomes. He ensures each project is ready to start on time.
Tony also leads our Agency Construction Management (ACM) division at Boyle which includes representing municipal governments, county governments, authorities and school districts for their capital projects. Tony and his team work alongside staff to lead and manage the process. For these services Boyle provides all aspects of project management such as feasibility studies, land development coordination, design team selection, deasign team oversight, value engineering, cost estimating, scheduling, bidding oversight and managing construction on-site. This past year Tony and his team have made great strides in growing the public division. We recently sat down for a Q&A with Tony.
Q: What can you say about the growth of the ACM team this past year?
A: Unbelievable how much we have accomplished as a group. The growth of our team is what is most impressive. We are up to 11 team members and soon to add another. The group is gelling; we are all customer service oriented, which really helps. Overall, an excellent group of professionals and tremendous skillset that compliments all. Our management team made a conscious effort to make ACM a priority for the company. We established a road map and executed the plan. So far it has had great results!
Q: What were some of the big projects the ACM team worked on this past year?
A: Hatfield Police Station and firing range. Christian Donovan and Dave Rifendifer did an outstanding job. Dave came into the job with a lot of great experience managing prime contractors on-site. They just get it, and the client loves them.
Parkland School District is another highlight for 2025 and beyond. We have been working closely with their facilities team on multiple projects like the Fogelsville bus loop, Kernsville drainage, Cetronia demolition, administration renovation, 3 waste treatment plant upgrades, and many more. We also were awarded projects for Council Rock School District with administration building renovation and school additions and renovations.

Q: What exciting projects are in the pipeline for the team
A: In addition to our local government projects growing,Parkland and Council Rock School Districts are very exciting for us. Building our school resume has always been a goal. Having added key staff like Chris Haller, Sand Szabo, Dave Rifendifer and Tracy Glad, with decades of project management for school districts, was so helpful along with others on our team. Their experience allowed us to really dig into these projects in the interview process and come up with solutions that the district appreciated as the difference-maker in our selection.
Exciting projects coming up in 2026 are:
- Exeter Township Emergency Services
- Lower Gwynedd Township Public Works
- Whitpain Township Community Center
- Springfield Township Community Center
- Lower Salford Township Public Works
- Lower Providence Township Administration and Police Department renovations
- Norristown Fire Station, Public Works and Community Center
Q: Has there been a memorable project for you on the ACM side?
A: A few come to mind. Lower Providence Township had a very exciting opportunity to use existing commercial property in the township industrial park as their new administration and police building. We were planning on building a new complex and a local landowner proposed this idea of building re-use. We evaluated it and it is going to work out great for the Township and residents. It was fun to creatively analyze and see what options we can propose and see it come to reality.
Also, the summer projects for Parkland last year were very exciting for me. The pre-planning on schedule and logistics was very challenging because of the strict, immovable deadlines of students’ first day. We delivered in a big way. Rob Lenosky, Eric Lapos, Jimmy Schultz and Nikki Cuocco were outstanding, but other team members assisted also. We all worked together very closely and coordinated daily and sometimes every minute of the day. It was outstanding work by the entire team and our client took notice.
Q: What about your land development work on the private side?
A: Working with Boyle clients on the NPDES, PennDOT and municipal permitting process is a great culmination of my experience. It is always different and like putting together a large puzzle even if you still need to find some pieces. My career started as a civil engineer, and I worked for a Township so I really understand all sides and can put myself in their shoes. I think that is the hardest part of all the permitting processes, understanding what the approval team needs and getting it to them in a timely manner to keep things moving. The move-in date rarely moves, but the start date can really be affected by these permits so I take that as a challenge. I keep everyone talking and working in the same direction to get crews on-site on-time.
Q: What drew you to joining the Boyle team?
A: While working with Karen Duerholz through the inspection agency previously owned by Boyle management, I enjoyed her personality and thoughtfulness. She was a pleasure to work with and be around. She then invited me to lunch one day, and brought Sean Boyle to talk about the possibilities of my role on the team and we just clicked. It felt right. I think we were all unsure about the exact fit or role, but we knew the cultural fit was there. They knew I belonged on the bus, but we needed to decide together what seat I was going to sit in. Needless to say, we figured it out. It has been an amazing ride ever since. This place feels like family and home, I love this place and the people that are part of it.
